100 Days Of School Project.

Javi and Lola celebrated their 100th day of the school year! I didn’t realize how big of a deal that was, but apparently… it is! In first grade, Javi was tasked with making a project that included 100 things that were the same. He thought about it for a few days and decided to make an alligator with 100 teeth!

Thanks to gramma, we collected egg cartons and toilet paper rolls and he got to work over the weekend! He started painting everything different shades of green and wanted the belly of the alligator to be yellow.

When it was time to begin assembling, we quickly realized 100 teeth wouldn’t fit inside the egg carton that was acting as the alligator’s mouth. So, he made a pivot. He decided that instead of 100 teeth, the alligator would have 100 fish inside its belly!

Gramma helped him design the fish on the cricut and then he watercolor painted each them — then insisted on adding an eye, a mouth and three gills on all 100 fish!

Thanks to help from Gramma, Barb and some moral support (and pressure) from me — he added teeth, claws (from toilet paper rolls), a tail (from a reynolds wrap box), and eyes and we used brads and hot glue to hold it all together!

He was so thrilled with his first real homework project! It was definitely like pulling teeth at times — I learned a lot about his work style (and mine!) — but it came out great and he finished in time to bring it to school for the “100 Day Museum”. That’s when all the 1st graders set up their projects and parents could tour the classrooms. I wasn’t able to go because I was at work but Sean went and Javi was so happy!
