A few days ago we got back from our family vacation in the Cape. This was the first week long trip we’ve taken in a long time — and the first EVER, that Sean has joined for the entire week. Usually he comes for the weekend and then has to leave to go to work. But now that he’s a remote worker he can work from anywhere! So he joined and worked 3 days and took off 3 days.
Luckily we had great weather, especially since we learned it rained at home the entire week. But where we were it was hot, humid and never rained. We made it to the beach almost every day, walked around little shops in downtown areas, went out to eat a ton of times, and ate ice cream every day. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary while there, Javi swam underwater without floaties, Lola played more “hockey” than “mini-golf”, and Eva learned to put on shoes! So… a big week all around.
I love bringing my kids to the Cape because I have such great memories of going there every summer growing up. Despite not really enjoying the beach myself – I love watching my own kids in the sand and water, and love how much they love it. I loved taking them to Chatham and going to the penny candy store (though it cost $34 now…), grabbing matching Cape Cod jammies for them to all wear one night, and seeing them party in the outdoor shower every day after the beach. I really feel like owning a Cape house will be in our future (if I can convince Sean, who is not a fan of the Cape and really humored us all for the week!)
Some of our favorites spots are:
Food: Spanky’s, Black Cat Tavern, Baxter’s, Palio’s Pizzeria
Coffee + Breakfast: Snowy Owl, Nirvana
Ice Cream + Treats: Cape Cod Creamery, Gone Chocolate, Smith Family Popcorn
Kid’s Boutique: Fox & Kit
Beach spots: Dowses Beach, Joshua’s Pond
September brought chilly mornings, lots of family time, busy schedules and birthdays!
Our littlest guy is seven months old and is a lovebug!
