Back in June we spent two nights in the Cape. We’ve been going to the Cape every year for a week’s vacation but this year the rental houses were so expensive. So we only stayed two nights. Honestly, it wasn’t a bad amount of time — if you know Lola, you know she likes to go away AND loves to get home — we made sure to squeeze as much fun in as we could!
One of the first places we stopped at was the Mass Audubon Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary. It was a breezy day — slightly cold for the beach, at least for me — and we had the whole place to ourselves. The kids didn’t seem to mind that it was a little cool. They still went in the water, played in the sand, flew a kite, built sandcastles… they had a blast!
The Wildlife reserve has great exhibits on the way to the beach (as well as a playground) and the kids were so happy to see all the creatures (turtles, birds, and more.)
We were only in the Cape for a few meals but we made sure to make them count. We went to all our favorite restaurants. Most of them were on the water and it was SO cold. Note to self: June is not officially summer weather!
The kids really wanted to do some mini golfing so one afternoon that’s what we did. They are still learning to move off the green, not to swing their golf clubs, and the general rules of the game (like you can’t just keeping trying over and over… or that you can’t just move the ball wherever you want it to be!) It was a little stressful!
We also ate a lot of ice cream considering how short of a trip we took. 🙂
While we were there, we had lots of family visiting, too! So we were lucky enough to spend time with them, have a cook out, eat (more) ice cream, sit around the fire pit, and hang out!
We added in a trip to Chatham. I feel like you can’t do a Cape trip without walking down the main strip, window shopping and stopping inside the penny candy store (which now costs like $13.99.)
We considered doing a boat tour but it has to wait until next year!
Hopefully next year we can stay for longer, but the two days were really nice!
September brought chilly mornings, lots of family time, busy schedules and birthdays!

Every October 1st, I give the kids Boo Baskets. They've become a favorite tradition and…
Ah, this has been the first month that I'm feeling a little behind on Walker's…
