We had such a nice Christmas together as a family! It’s truly my favorite time of the year. I wait and wait and wait, and then always feel like the entire season passes by way too quickly. But specifically Christmas morning… goes by too quickly. After spending hours, and days, planning and prepping and shopping and hiding and wrapping and counting presents… once the kids get their hands on the gifts and they tear off the wrapping paper… it’s just, over.
So even though there are pangs of sadness with it all being over, I wanted to share a bit about our Christmas Day 2024.
We woke up early, played music, and made cookies. We left the house only to see Santa and his reindeer being escorted around town by the police! The kids opened their Christmas Eve box, and some of them immediately got into their newest jammies. We visited my parents and everyone got to open a gift. We went to dinner (chinese food!) and everyone cooperated and ate their food, and nothing at the table spilled. And we ended the night at home, putting out milk, carrots, and cookies for Santa and the reindeer!
Christmas Day 2024 was also the best! The kids were up early (5am) with flashlights to peek through their stockings. Sean makes them wait until the coffee is ready before they dive into their gifts, which helps prolong the process by a few minutes. He also grew up with someone playing “Santa”. This is the person who hands everyone a gift and we take turns opening, so that people notice what they open and don’t just toss the gift to the side in order to open another one. This year, Lola was Santa!
After opening gifts, playing with toys, eating breakfast, and finally getting ready… we went to my parent’s house. It was a chaotic scene as the kids each opened presents! They had so much fun. We ate there and spent the rest of the afternoon at their house. By nighttime, we were able to head home, eat a bit, and play some new board games. The Twangled Knot game is one of our favorites right now!
Our December was packed full of every day busyness mixed with festive cheer!

So special! What sweet memories. Love all the pics. Such a good idea about someone playing Santa…need to remember that next year.
Yes, playing Santa is a game changer. The trick (for you!) is making sure everyone has the same amount of presents. That way, every round, every kid has a gift! :) It does prolong the enjoyment though and it's totally less chaotic.
