For nearly a month, we’ve been solely committed to one thing: preparing for Christmas. Part of getting in the holiday spirit is… watching allll the Christmas movies streaming has to offer us.
Growing up, I remember having like 5 tv channels and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas would come on live tv once or twice a season. If you missed it, you missed out. But of course, now there are endless chances to catch something “on tv” and entertainment is so saturated that oftentimes, missing something means nothing. It’ll be on again, you can rent or buy it within seconds, and let’s face it… half of what is released is just not very good.
Here are the Christmas movies we’ve watched so far this year starting with the classics!
The kids love all these classic movies. I could do without the second and third installments of The Santa Claus. 🙂 We ended up watching Miracle on 34th Street for our family movie night — it was new for the kids, and it had been a really long time for us. It was a great choice! We previewed Noelle for the first time and will watch it with the kids on Christmas Eve! It was adorable!
These are some of our favorites! We haven’t watched these with the kids yet, except for Elf. The drive-in played it a few weeks ago and we did take them. But a few of them fell asleep! Most of it goes over their heads, but they like the character of Elf.
I’m not sure these will ever become “classics” but they were definitely some of the better holiday movies Sean and I watched this past month! I actually enjoyed them…
Falling for Christmas is about Lindsay Lohan bumping her head and basically giving herself amnesia… and no one recognizes her even though she’s basically a celebrity. Oh, and she falls in love with the owner of the lodge where she fell skiing. Obviously.
Holiday in the Wild is about a woman who is getting a divorce, so she travels to Africa and becomes an elephant vet… and falls in love with vet/pilot/volunteer… Rob Lowe.
A Biltmore Christmas is about a movie producer (writer? director?) who travels back in time, and meets the cast and becomes an extra in the classic movie that she, in present day, is doing a remake of… and then falls in love with main actor from the 40’s.
Our Little Secret is about a couple who dated in their early 20’s and 10 years later runs into each other again when they discover they are dating siblings, and have to spend Christmas with that entire family… and, you guessed it… fall in love, again. This was probably the best one and had the best sense of humor. Plus, the male actor is from Pretty Little Liars.
Candy Cane Lane didn’t keep my attention. I couldn’t even tell you what happened in it and we watched the whole thing. I think Eddie Murphy gets fired in the beginning and something magical happens? It was a miss for me.
Haul Out The Holly felt like every scene was the same thing. I tried to love it, because I love her. But I just couldn’t. How there’s a sequel is beyond me. Nothing happened in it?!
Mistletoe in Montana was exactly what you think it is by both the title and the movie billboard. They meet. They don’t get along because she’s from the ranch and he’s from the city. They argue. They fall in love. He has to leave because vacation is over. He decides to stay on the ranch and live a slow life. End scene.
Hot Frosty is about a snowman that comes to life. Literally. I’m not sure if this one was actually a parody of all the bad/cheesy Christmas movies that have been made. If it’s a parody, then I’ll change my decision and it’ll move up to the hits category. But if it’s serious, it stays here because even though it was funny… it was a waste of time to watch. I mean… she falls in love with a snowman. What?
A Sudden Case of Christmas wasn’t necessarily bad… but it was depressing! It’s also advertised as a family movie, but is most definitely not family friendly. It seemed to drag which was a bummer because I actually really liked the cast.
Red One had the potential to be so good and I really did love parts of it. But it’s in this category because I think it had better potential as a family movie with a few changes… like less swearing. I’m not sure why adults would want to watch an action-packed movie about Santa Claus… but I know a 9 year old who would love it. I just feel like it missed the mark.
We’ll still be watching Christmas movies all week… what do I need to add to My List?
Traditions, stockings and Santa! Plus, a peek at the stockings for our three oldest kids!
Having a baby at Christmastime is just magical. Here are some gift ideas for the…
Eva June turns five! It started with an idea and ended with a surprise party!
If you're anything like me, you like to know what people actually buy their kids…
