The Montessori Dressing Frames are designed to teach children how to dress themselves. They also allow kids to develop their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. In Montessori, we isolate each skill concept, so there are different frames for the different clothing fasteners. These include: buttons (large and small), snaps, hook and eye, zipper, buckle, bow, lacing, and safety pins. They are really appealing to young children and typically they like to repeat these Dressing Frames over and over. However, authentic Montessori Dressing Frames are really expensive.

For these, I used thin 6×6 pieces of wood, a glue gun and clothes the kids had grown out of. SO EASY. I just free cut the clothes to fit the wood and then glued the fabric between two pieces of wood so that it was adhered to the wood.
Now the kids can practice undoing and doing the buttons, snaps and zipper to their heart’s content.
