Dyed Flowers.

Last week, my mom brought us some white flowers so that we could do some flower arranging. Since we had so much colored water left over from all our science experiments, I thought we’d use it to see if we could dye some of the white flowers different colors!

The girls started by pulling the leaves off the stems and then cutting the stems shorter so that they would fit in the cups of water.

We had six glasses with colored water (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.) So they put one flower in each glass.

Then we moved them to the playroom so we could observe what happened! It took about three hours, but the first change was with the flower in the blue water. By the next day, it was vibrant!

We had one spill a few days later, so I moved the flowers down lower so that Eva could see them without pulling on them. 🙂 After a week, the red and orange were faint but visible. The yellow one turned yellow at the edges. The green and blue flowers looked strongest! And then the purple was visible but just looked blue.

I think we should have used more food coloring in our water, but after all the science experiments we’ve been doing… we were running low!

This was definitely a fun activity and I hope to do it again!
