Last Sunday, our town held its annual father daughter dance. They renamed it the “Me and My Valentine” dance, in an effort to be a bit more inclusive but I asked if that meant I could bring Javi as a mother/son duo and I was told no. So… Sean got to continue the tradition of attending with the girls!
This was actually Lola’s second year going but last year, she hated it and cried because it was too loud! It was Eva’s first time going and she was so excited! She had been talking about it since early January when we first saw the invite.
They got ready in their red and pink dresses, we did their hair (and nails!), threw on some lipstick and Sean got them some flowers and corsages. Truthfully, I ordered the corsages but when I was talking to Eva, she mentioned that she “hopes Daddy gets me a rose” — so Sean ran out to the flower shop last minute and picked up two individual roses!
When it was time, they were off to the dance. Sean said they were the first ones there (ha!) and they quickly did the photo booth, scoped out the dance floor, ate a snack and had a drink… and then Eva was done. Of course! But this year Lola was completely into the dance and quickly found all her friends on the dance floor.
They stayed until the balloon drop (two hours later!) which I was impressed by. Lola said it was the best day ever and Eva said it was too loud and had too many people. 🙂
We’ll see what happens next year!
