I’m so glad we took our Halloween pictures a few weeks ago! We managed to get some good photos of the kids with a “fall-ish” background before this October snowstorm turned everything to winter!
We knew we wouldn’t trick or treat this year so we started to brainstorm how to make the holiday special. Thanks to my parents and aunt, we were able to pull off a pretty great “spooky” bash for the kids. Because of the snow in our yard, we changed venues, from our house to my parent’s house, at the last minute and I think it worked out great!
They made haunted houses (painted large boxes), an amazing mural/backdrop and we set up gravestones with candy bowls to “trick or treat” from. We lit up the yard with orange lights and glow sticks and sticky spider webs and invited our “Covid bubble”. 🙂 We made EVERYONE come in costume.
Javi had been talking about being Spider-Man since July and of course, Lola chose to be Princess Anna. They’d been dying to wear their costumes and were so excited that Halloween was here! I chose Eva’s hedgehog costume because I knew it would keep her warm since we’d need to be outside. Sean and I were a T-Bird and a Pink Lady (Grease!)
Trick or treating in the yard turned out to be a great time! And exactly the amount of candy everyone needed. 🙂 Javi was really good about taking one piece per bowl. Lola emptied every bowl into her pumpkin! Eva was mostly just along for the ride. It was way too cold to stage pictures (28 degrees!) She mostly snuggled up close and went inside every once in a while to warm up.
We made great food which I didn’t take pictures of and even decorated inside which I also didn’t take pictures of! But we had things like brains and eyeballs (spaghetti and meatballs), and pizza skulls (pizzas in the shape of skulls), a skeleton platter (veggies cut into the shape of a skeleton), bat wings (chicken wings) — you get the idea. We also made worms and dirt (pudding, oreos and gummy worms), and had cupcakes. There was no shortage of sugar or fun.
It was such a great halloween. Sean and I talked about making this our yearly tradition. HA! Imagine… something sticking around in a positive way due to Covid-19. Who knew!
Happy Halloween!
