It’s already that time of year (again) where I’m putting together little baskets for the kids. Truthfully, it’s one of my favorite things to do — I love gifting them little things around holidays like Halloween and Valentine’s Day! I think because they are less pressure than the big holidays (Christmas and Easter) and while it’s become a tradition for us, the kids have little to no expectations for these gifts. There’s no mythical creature attached to the day that makes me feel like I have to meet some standard or shop to impress.
However… this is the first time we are celebrating a holiday during such an active home purge! So it does feel a little strange to be buying things while I’m also simultaneously getting rid of things and considering… am I going to be throwing this away in a few weeks?! This little home shift has also made it clear what we definitely don’t need: art supplies, sensory items, clothing, hair accessories… all my usual go-to’s!
But my weaknesses are, and have always been, books and stuffed animals! So each kid is getting a mini slumberkin, and a book geared for them! Also included in their baskets: a new water bottle (which is actually a need), one 10 color pen each, a small heart shaped snack plate, and one small gift that will probably end up in the trash (it’s just the truth) — the girls are getting a small barbie reveal purse and Javi is getting a small science/geode kit. And lastly, some consumables: candy. I mean… it is Valentine’s Day, after all!
Here are some ideas that I’ve picked up for their little love baskets. In our house, I gift them the baskets on Valentine’s Day morning and they are usually excited and appreciative!
