Here’s a little recap of Eva’s work choices the last month. I finally moved her entire work shelf into the playroom so she’s been having a blast there with the bigger kids. I keep 8 activities out at any given time; 1 activity per cubby. But now that she’s moving around… she doesn’t just stay at her shelf. And that’s okay! Sometimes the shelf is completely ignored and she shows curiosity in other materials (not meant for her.)
This month, I started something new which was to “disassemble” the work on the shelf so that when she saw it… she would feel the urge to put it together. This means that the puzzle pieces are in a basket off to the side. The rings for the stacker material are in a basket, and so on. I’m not sure it made a difference to be honest! But everything is worth a try!
Here is some of what she’s been working with: shapes, puzzles, object permanence, ball drop, ring stacker, posting materials. Some are the same as last month! When she’s still enjoying something, it stays in the toy rotation.
Kinetic sand: This was an accident, but she loved it so much and didn’t eat it. It is messy! Be warned.
Posting: This Lovevery material came in our latest subscription box and she loves it! It’s essentially a posting activity. You can read my review of the Babbler Play Kit by Lovevery here.
DIY Ribbon Pull: This is a fun little DIY I pulled together this month. Truthfully, it probably could have been introduced as soon as she started standing… so a few months ago! But she loves it. When she pulls one side of the ribbon, the other side goes up. Pull down on that side, and the first side goes up. A nice little cause/effect material.
Weaning table: I always said I wouldn’t get a weaning table/chair set and yet, here we are! She just kept falling off our kids Ikea furniture! Honestly, it’s worth the investment and I wish I got it when she was like 6 months! The nice thing is it comes with table legs that are different lengths (3 different sizes) and the chair alters too, so it truly will grow with her. She uses it to eat, color, do her work… anything! And she doesn’t fall out of the chair — which was my aim.
