Mother // Daughter.

It’s been a while since I’ve had the house quiet enough to just write. 🙂 But now that I’m home for another week waiting on baby #3 to arrive — the kids are at school and Sean is at work and I’m too tired to be up and about — it’s the perfect time! I’m suddenly very aware that my time with one child of each gender is coming to a close. Soon, I’ll have a son and TWO daughters.

I’ll admit, part of me feels really guilty about putting Lola in such a “middle child” category. When we decided to expand our family, I thought it would be best to hope for a boy. You know, because you can plan those things! But my thought behind wanting a boy was that each child would be, and continue to hold, such a special place within our family unit. Javi — the oldest, Lola — the only girl, and new baby — the youngest. In my head (as an only child, I’ll admit) this seemed ideal. So when the ultrasound person, and every doctor since then, said “it’s a girl” — I was thrilled, but so sad for Lola who is now smack, dab in the middle and will no longer be “the only girl” — a position I hold, and enjoy, in my family.

At the same time, I know so many women — friends and family — who have such amazing relationships with their sisters. This gives me hope! Since the girls will be so close in age (less than two years), I want this for them. I think it’ll be wonderful to watch all three kids grow up together and see their different personalities shine through and see them build different types of connections and grow close to one another.

I know Lola doesn’t understand what’s about to happen and the change that’s going to occur. But I’m hopeful that she shows a bit of interest in her new baby sister!

Honestly, I am SO excited to dress them similarly (i.e.: matching outfits every day) and I can’t wait to see what she looks like and who she looks like! In her 3D ultrasound pictures, she looks JUST like big sister, Lola! 🙂
