We’re nearing the end of November, but I can’t forget to recap October! I’ll jump right in because, at this point, it’s been so long that I don’t really remember the month!
At the end of September, Javi ended up being patient 0 in our house. After multiple trips to the doctor, and two chest x-rays, and finally a blood draw, it was confirmed that he had pneumonia. In the midst of all of that, we went to Children’s in Boston to meet with a pulmonologist for this chronic cough he seems to get every fall-spring. He was on the waiting list for over 10 months and it was finally time for the appointment. They worried he had cystic fibrosis, but it was determined, he does not — thankfully! Unfortunately, he was so sick and missed a whole bunch of things he had been looking forward to including his fall camping trip with Cub Scouts, and his school Fun Run. It was a major bummer!
Lola’s immune system held on the longest — per usual! All the fruits and veggies she eats do her well. She managed to make it to her Fun Run which she loved, but then ended up getting diagnosed with pneumonia two days before her Cheer competition! It was touch and go, but she rallied and pulled it off with her team! Unfortunately, they didn’t place this year so the season ended and she was crushed. She quickly replaced Cheer with swimming lessons, and she fell in the pool during the first class! It was proof she needs the lessons. She was also invited to multiple birthday parties and a Halloween party!
Eva also had a bout of pneumonia. It was just never ending in our house. Plus she went on a hike one day with Sean and Javi, fell and hit her eye on something. A trip to urgent care revealed she suffered eye trauma. On the positive side: she did get to run in the Fun Run, she managed to make it to school picture day and to her classroom fall festival, and she finally wasn’t sick on Halloween night (which has been the case the last two years!)
Walker just grew and grew and grew. On healthy days he tagged along to the library and to story time and strolled around the playground and on the sick days, he spent a lot of time at home. But he managed to stay pretty healthy except for some congestion.
One day the kids had a half day, everyone was feeling relatively decent (or was at least on meds…) and we went to the zoo. We hadn’t done anything in weeks just for fun and it was so great to be there. They all had so much fun and it was a beautiful day!
At the start of the month, we had all these other really big plans to celebrate fall and Halloween and I’m sort of sad that we didn’t do anything — but there weren’t many days that were healthy. We never got to apple picking or a pumpkin patch, and we didn’t get to Salem. But, we did do Boo Baskets, and some Halloween crafts, ended up carving pumpkins on Halloween, and the kids had so much fun trick or treating that I don’t actually think they cared…
The coolest thing of the month was seeing the Northern Lights from our backyard. Also, to make up for the camping trip that Javi had to miss because he was sick — Sean set up a tent in the backyard and they all camped outside one night. The kids were so excited.
I stayed healthy for the first 3 weeks of having pneumonia in the house, and then… on October 21st (I remember the day well, haha) I felt a little sore throat and for the next five weeks (seriously…) I cycled through round after round of antibiotics! But that’s a story for November’s Highlights. 🙂
September brought chilly mornings, lots of family time, busy schedules and birthdays!
Our littlest guy is seven months old and is a lovebug!
Every October 1st, I give the kids Boo Baskets. They've become a favorite tradition and…
Ah, this has been the first month that I'm feeling a little behind on Walker's…
