A few days ago, I rotated our shelves and included some new Halloween-themed trays! This might be my favorite season for shelf work — it’s just so spooky and fun. Today, I’m sharing our Halloween-themed Practical Life activities:
Pumpkin Hammering: a pumpkin, golf tees and a wooden hammer
This is such a hit with all three of my kids! I’ve seen it done a few different ways.
– pre-drill holes so that children have an easier time hammering the golf tees into the pumpkin
– make small dots with a marker all over the pumpkin so that children have “a goal”
– give the materials and see what happens!
I typically go with the third option. The kids have always been able to do it!
Pumpkin Washing: a pumpkin, basin with water, veggie brush, towels
My 3 year old loves hand washing, baby washing, window washing — so pumpkin washing is right up her alley! You can add a washable marker as an extension — your child can draw a jack-o-lantern face and then scrub it off!
Pumpkin Threading: pipe cleaner, pony beads
This one is a true test in fine motor skills. 🙂
Scooping: two bowls (or in this case a bowl and a silicone baking mold), a scoop, and something to transfer (balls, pompoms, rice, beans, etc.)
Tonging: two bowls, tongs, objects to transfer
The kids are having such fun with all these themed activities!
September brought chilly mornings, lots of family time, busy schedules and birthdays!
