I know I sound like a broken record, but I can’t believe we’ve had little Lola with us for one month. It’s just crazy to me how quickly time passes. I wanted to stop for a few moments and write all about her and how much she brings to our family. Basically it’s been a month filled with love, a bit less sleep, double the crying & diaper changes and so many couch snuggles. 🙂 I’m going to do her weight and height in a few days after her month check-up. But as for other things, here goes:
Or Lala, as Javi has nicknamed her is a month old. She’s outgrown her newborn clothes already (she didn’t even get a chance to wear everything!) and she now wears 0-3. She prefers sleepers to separates and hates cute baby jeggings especially if the waistband is too tight. Socks and mittens do not stay on her, we haven’t attempted shoes and she’s really not a fan of hats. She’s in size 1 diapers, too.
A typical day for our little Lala goes like this:
3AM: wakes for a bottle, and usually goes back to sleep (though not the past 2 nights)
6AM: wakes to eat, then back to sleep in her swing while I get Javi ready for school
7AM: sleeps in my arms and we watch Good Morning America
9AM: wakes up for a feeding, then we do some house things like empty the dishwasher and wash bottles
11AM: seems like her fussy time and nothing soothes her
12PM: eats again, then falls asleep (she’s generally pretty exhausted from her hour of fussiness)
3PM: eats again and cries (I joke that she cries when I try to watch Ellen…)
6PM: eats again but typically waits until we’re right about to have dinner 🙂 she wants to be included
8PM: sometimes a fussy time so we’ll give her half a bottle to hold her over
10PM: last bottle before bed, she sleeps in her rock and play next to our bed
AND, then we do it all over again! It’s a lot of sleeping and eating…
She’s a decent sleeper especially during the day. She’ll sleep for a long time if she’s on me in some way. She’ll sleep less soundly in her swing or rock and play but she does sleep in the rock and play pretty well during the first part of the night.
She’s a good eater and eats 4 ounces every 3 hours or so. She’s a bit dramatic when she’s letting us know she’s hungry. We joke that she goes from a peaceful, sleeping baby to an extremely, angry baby in just a few seconds. She’s a bit over the top. She spits up an awful lot and I’m wondering if maybe she some type of reflux thing happening. We feed her Enfamil Gentlease. I’m not sure she loves it that much and we’ve tried a few others, too. But I’m also pumping so she gets 2 bottles a day of pumped milk which I think she prefers.
It’s been absolutely freezing so we haven’t ventured out much. We haven’t gone on walks or traveled to stores. But we leave the house every Wednesday and Friday to pick up Javi in the carline at school and on Sundays for dinner at my parent’s house. She seems to like the carseat and doesn’t cry all that much. When she does cry we offer her the pacifier and sometimes she takes it and sometimes she immediately spits it out. I’m hoping she stops wanting it altogether soon.
She loves being with Javi. Sometimes when she’s crying and nothing Sean or I do helps — Javi asks to hold her and she’s calm again. It’s pretty amazing! My hope is that they enjoy each other’s company and play together as soon as she’s ready — obviously, Javi is already waiting. He’s started to show a bit of angst toward her but loves when we include him in caring for her. So that’s been our method. I love this picture even though I think we all sort look overtired. But I guess that just shows we’re in this together. 🙂
