Our Cheerleader.

A few months ago, Sean and I were watching Cheer on Netflix after the kids went to bed. About 30 minutes after tucking them all in tightly, Lola started to hover on the stairs. I asked her to go back to bed and paused the show. She asked what we were watching… and suddenly, Lola was introduced to Cheerleading. ha! At first I described it as dance and gymnastics mixed together and sent her back to bed. She was happy with this explanation but the next day insisted on watching some cheerleading videos on YouTube. She very quickly decided it should be her fall sport — they are each choosing one. Cheerleading is it for Lola.

Lucky for her, the Cheer season started August 1 so she’s been at it for about a month now. She practices twice a week, 3 hours in total. Plus they cheer at home games for the elementary football team and then are scheduled to compete in two competitions this season. One, thankfully, is in town. The other, unfortunately, is in Lowell — that is not in town.

She is loving it. She knows the cheers, the movements, and loves all the girls (many of whom know her as Javi’s sister… which right now, she thinks is the best.) She on a team called “Tinies” and it’s for 4-6 year olds, so a few of the 6 year olds are in Javi’s class at school.

Some of her favorite cheers are: touchdown, touchdown, touchdown boys. You make the touchdown, we make the noise. Then there’s: my back is aching and my hair’s too tight. My hips are shaking to the left and to the right.

The season ends in early November. Hopefully it gets cooler during the actual football games because right now that’s her least favorite part. She enjoys practice (indoors) more than games (outdoors.) She loves the outfit, the bow, and the whole look. They also pick her up and hold her by one leg. No idea what that’s all about but maybe I’ll learn if this becomes a thing she commits, too. 🙂

We are very proud of our cheerleader!
