Our Halloween Season.

We filled our October with lots of family activities, knowing it was the last month or so as a family of four! We tried to squeeze in as many opportunities for the kids to wear their costumes, tried to get outside and of course, wore matching jammies! Sean and I tried to watch every horror movie available on Hulu (well the 90s ones — nothing too scary for me!) and obviously, watched Hocus Pocus every chance we got!

Javi and Lola were so excited by all the ghouls and goblins and spooky decorations. Every time we passed by a house, Javi would ask to drive by it again and declare “it’s not that spooky, right mama?!” — as if he was needed some reassurance from me that we were, in fact, ok 🙂 Javi decided since he was Catboy (from PJ Masks) last year, this year he’d be Gekko. And I chose a witch costume for Lola!

We never made it to the pumpkin patch. Or to apple picking. Or to any other type of activity with a lot of walking involved. I’m a little disappointed by this. But it wasn’t in the cards for us this year! And honestly, picking out pumpkins at our local farm stand was sort of just as fun!

One night we took the kids out to dinner and stopped at Carter’s. Their Halloween clothes were so cute! I picked up a few things and they basically lived in those clothes all month long!

Our town held a “Spooky Fun Run” for kids under 10, a few days before Halloween. We signed them up — unsure if either would participate! Last time Javi did a fun run he left in tears and Lola is a bit hard to read so we never know what to expect from her! But surprisingly they both ran! And Javi was the fastest in his race!

One night we took them to the Roger Williams Zoo in Rhode Island for their “Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular” event. They dressed up (Lola — very unwillingly!) to walk around the zoo and look at all the carved, pretty impressive, jack-o-lanterns!

One afternoon, I had a hair and skin party at our house and Sean took the kids to the Country Fair! They had such a fun time and I wish I had gone with them!

Then there was the day I had the brilliant idea to head to Salem! That, of course, ended in disaster because Salem during the month of October is just terribly crowded. We couldn’t even find parking! We drove the whole way just to turn around and come home!

The night of Halloween was a success! Again, I didn’t actually expect Lola to go door to door (plus it was down pouring!). But she went and she loved it! It was so fun to watch both kids do their thing and practice their “trick or treat” and “thank you!” 🙂
