Our October.

What a month! Here’s a look at our October.

Javi enjoyed Cub Scouts. We met with his Den twice this month, once for a meet up at our house, and once for a nature walk at a nearby trail. Then he stood outside — in freezing temps! — to sell popcorn for a popcorn fundraiser. We also met with the whole Pack for a reptile show.

The big campout happened in October! Sean took him for a two night camping trip. They slept in a tent, went on night hikes, and learned how to build fire! He earned his tent building, fire making, first aid and orienteering badges!

Lola cheered her little heart out! She continued going to cheer twice a week for practices plus cheered at cold, early morning football games! Then she competed in a regional competition! She was amazing! She never missed a day and was so sad when Cheer ended.

We spent half a day in Salem! The kids watched Hocus Pocus all month so they were really excited to go to the place where the witches lived! We didn’t have an agenda when we got there — just walk around and see stuff so that’s what we did. AND total strangers offered to take our pictures a few times so we even got some family shots.

Sean’s parents visited us! We went to lunch and then to a local farm and went on a hayride and went apple picking, through a corn maze.. and did all the Fall things!

We went to a minor league hockey game! Javi and Eva really enjoyed the environment! Lola was okay about it but definitely did not like the mascots — but loved all the princesses. 🙂 Javi and Sean loved the hockey part!

I spent the month handwriting a couple hundred postcards to voters in NC urging them to vote. Eva helped me stamp them and brought them to the post office. We also did weekly trips to the Library — with all her dogs and purses in tow.

We did all the spooky things! The kids dressed up like Harry Potter (Javi), Bo Peep (Lola) and Sleeping Beauty (Eva)! I helped run the school’s Trunk Or Treat in mid-October so the kids joined that, the girls and I went to a Tract Or Treat, and then of course, we went Trick Or Treating on Halloween night! We have way too much candy!

We also watched them parade in their school’s Halloween parade, and I helped out in Javi’s classroom during his Fall Festival on Halloween day!

Javi joined me at work one day for our school’s Community Day! He played games, went on a tractor ride and helped rake some leaves off the nature trails.

We had a pumpkin painting party and celebrated my grandmother’s birthday!

We were invited to a few friends’ birthday parties! The Cheer moves came with us… 🙂

Our month was filled with small moments, too: date nights and morning walks, switching Halloween costumes all month long, some illnesses: bronchitis, pink eye, allergies, plus school photo day, and baking apple crisp and apple pie.

The biggest news of all: Javi learned to tie shoes.

Then there were many mornings waiting for the bus under our big tree, lots of guitar playing, chest x-rays, dress up dance classes, soccer on Saturday mornings and nature walks.

Here’s to November. 🙂
