Our Time In Montana.

Back in July we rented a house in Bozeman, Montana for five nights. Since we drove, we arrived late in the evening on Thursday night and left in the early morning on the following Tuesday. The first morning we woke up we were greeted by the horses that live on the ranch. It was very exciting. The owners said they loved apples and carrots and that the kids could feed them so we made sure to buy lots and lots. By the second day, the horses would rush over to the side of the fence when they saw the kids coming. 🙂

It took the girls longer to warm up to the horses (they were really large!) but Javi loved them from the first moment.

The house had a ton of land and open space. We were surprised how late the sun set! Even at 11PM, the sky was still bright. It made the days seem so long — and never ending. (Good thing, yes, but tiring with kids!) We wanted the days there to be a mixture of sightseeing and just hanging around, not doing much. The kids played outside a lot and there was also a hot tub and a fire pit.

Some of the outings we planned were the Museum of the Rockies (lots of dinosaur fossils!), Bannack (a ghost town), and Yellowstone National Park.

Bannack, the ghost town, was pretty cool — SO many mosquitoes though! The kids loved all the state and national parks because they got to become junior rangers, collect wooden badges and stamp our park book!

It took about 90 minutes to get to Yellowstone National Park from the house. We left super early one morning because I read online that it gets full of traffic and can become a pretty negative experience. But we had a great day. There were a couple places that were really crowded and it was a bit tricky to find parking. But for the most part we saw what we wanted to see. After a few hours, the kids were sort of over it. They kept saying “didn’t we already see this…” and Javi couldn’t handle the smell of sulfur. 🙂

We saw a number of animals and we ended up playing a game — spot an animal, get an m&m. I preferred to drive through the park rather than park and walk around just because it was pretty crowded and because lots of things in Yellowstone can actually kill you! Between the geothermal stuff like geysers, and the wild animals — I felt safer in the car!

Another outing we took was to a grizzly bear sanctuary! The bears were really well taken of and content so it wasn’t sad at all! We actually visited twice while in Bozeman!

We also spent some time in downtown Bozeman, which was so cute and fun and that’s where the kids picked up their stylish (and expensive) cowboy boots. And, of course, we went to the playground a few times!

We had such a fun time in Bozeman and we would love to go back to Montana. The kids were just all smiles the whole trip and it made everything worth it.
