I used to share our days (every day!) on instaStories and add timestamps to show what we did and when we did it and for how long. But I haven’t done a day in the life on the blog… ever? So here goes:
6AM: The day started around 6 because Sean had to shower to go to work. Thursdays are the one day that I’m home and he goes into the office. When the kids wake up, they usually watch tv in Javi’s room but on this day, the girls joined me in my bed and we watched the Christmas Chronicles. Yup, we’re still watching Christmas stuff! After a bit, we went downstairs to check the Valentine’s Day mailboxes! Sean and I are alternating making the kids valentines and this day happened to be his turn!
7AM: At 7, I ventured into the kitchen. We ate out the night before so the kitchen was a mess from the previous day. It was a mixture of cleaning up, starting a breakfast (eggs, cinnamon rolls, cereal, fruit, yogurt), prepping snacks (bento boxes for the girls), making lunch for Javi (mac + cheese), packing backpacks — everything. I threw on audible, and got to work. I’m listening to The Reason I Jump and had about 30 minutes left so I listened for 15 minutes before the kids started talking my ear off.
8AM: I cleaned the kitchen, started the dishwasher, wiped down the counters and swept the floor. I tossed in my first set of laundry for the day. Javi got dressed and brushed his teeth. Then they had a dance party in the playroom. At 8:30, Javi and I got bundled up to stand outside for the bus. It was trash day so he helped me bring the barrels and the recycling bins back to the side of the house. Once we was on the bus, I checked on the girls (still having a dance party) and I jumped in the shower. There’s something so great about kids being an age where I can shower without fear. 🙂
9AM: After I got ready, I cleaned the very neglected bathroom — scrubbed the toilet, sink, bathtub, and floor. Then I invited the girls to come upstairs to get dressed, brush their teeth and make their beds! At 9:30, we brushed hair (even though you can’t tell, ha!) and then we left the house to head to Speech Therapy.
10AM: Eva has Speech first at 10:15! Once we walk her in, Lola likes to play in the play area for a few minutes and then we go to the car so that she can eat her snack (the bento box I prepped in the morning.) While she eats, I check work emails and do a little catch up!
11AM: After 45 minutes, the girls swap spots! Eva comes with me and it’s Lola’s turn with the SLP. Eva also likes to play in the play area for a few minutes and then move to the car for her snack. She likes to sit in Lola’s seat while she’s hanging out in the car — don’t worry, she’s not big enough for the seat she’s sitting in while we’re parked… I know! I do some work while she eats and then at 11:45, we walk back in to get Lola and then we drive home.
12PM: We usually get home around 12:15 and then it’s a mad dash to get lunch together, eat and get Lola to school on time (12:45!) I tried to prep what I could in the morning so they had deconstructed sandwiches and some raw veggies and I heated up my leftovers from the restaurant the night before for myself! Lola’s backpack was already packed so at 12:44 we ran to the car, and drove to school. We made it on time (thankfully, we’re 30 seconds away!) and then Eva and I came back home and cleaned up lunch.
1PM: We both needed some quiet time so Eva watched a little TV (she’s really into PBSkids right now) and I swapped the laundry and folded the load from the previous day. While I was putting it away, I cleaned up their rooms a bit more, made my bed, got their green clothing together (this week is spirit week at school and the next day was “wear green” day!)
2PM: I felt reenergized after an hour of quiet, so I decided to organize some of our art supplies and put out some materials so the kids can make valentines. Eva was done with the TV so she played a memory game (personalized cards from shutterfly) and then she chose to paint a wooden heart.
3PM: We bundled up (it’s been so cold!) and drove to pick up Javi and Lola. They get out of school at 3:10. While we waited for them, Eva practiced her words from Speech. Once we were back in the car, I told them we could get a donut and then I needed to get a carwash. I wanted to do a Target trip but they weren’t having it. Unfortunately, Dunkin’ didn’t have any donuts! We tried two different locations. I did get myself a hot chocolate. Then we went to the carwash and headed home. Eva fell asleep!
4PM: We got home and we unpacked their backpacks. They had their afternoon snack. I unloaded the dishwasher (and reloaded it) and finished my book on audible! It’s my 6th book of the year! Then I swapped the laundry, folded and put away the next load, and watched an episode of Friends! The kids were so excited about the valentines supplies!
5PM: Probably a few minutes before 5 (if I’m being honest), I started dinner. We all know I usually don’t cook but it had to be done! There are a few things I can make: a taco kit is one of the those things. 🙂 While cooking, I was privy to a magic show by Javi! They continued making valentines. Sean got home a little before 5:30 and we ate, then he took Javi to basketball for 6.
6PM: I cleaned up dinner, swapped the laundry and while I was in the basement doing that the girls got into a fight (first and only one of the day, so that’s a win.) By the time I got upstairs, they were both in tears. Turns out, Eva wanted Google to play a song from Zombies and Lola wanted to hear Taylor Swift. I folded the next load of laundry while watching another episode of Friends. When I went upstairs to put it away, I put the TV on for them and they watched an episode of Pinkalicious. At 6:30, they took a bath and we did the bedtime routine — lotion, pajamas, teeth, stories. I tucked them in at 6:58!
7PM: I hopped on my PTO zoom call. Javi and Sean got home from basketball at 7:15!
8PM: My call lasted until 8. Then I joined Sean on the couch and put in another two hours for work before calling it a day around 10! I don’t sleep well these days, but I went to bed anyway and eventually did sleep.
And that’s a typical Thursday!
