Last weekend we were going to join a fishing derby but plans changed! It turned out for the best because we brought the kids to the town beach (I say beach somewhat sarcastically) and fished as a family.
We had a lot going on that day (a soccer game and a baseball game) but it was sort of one of those things we felt if we didn’t just commit and go — it would never happen. So, the kids got ready for their games, Sean packed the car, we made one stop at the fishing store in town (Sean worked there as a teenager!) to get some bait and Eva a fishing rod… and we were off!
For a family who doesn’t necessarily fish often, we have a lot of gear. 🙂 Javi and Lola have been fishing with us before so they each already had their own rod but it seems that with age, they’ve lost their patience for fishing. Oh, and they are so loud, Sean says they scare away the fish!
But little Miss Eva — she was the winner. She caught 4 fish total! She might just turn into Sean’s fishing buddy. (It’s definitely not me! I made it clear I was there just for the photo opportunities!)
It was a really fun morning — slow and peaceful (as peaceful as 4 kids can be) but much better than I imagine a full fishing derby would be!
The best part is that Lola’s soccer games are right near the beach, so we might do this again in a few weeks! Javi definitely wants a do-over! 🙂
September brought chilly mornings, lots of family time, busy schedules and birthdays!
