There’s just something special about October. It’s still technically in that “comfortable weather” territory and it can be really fun to take some activities outside!
Here are some outdoor activities for October:
Painting pumpkins: Carving pumpkins is really hard (!) but painting is generally right up a child’s alley. They LOVE it. If you use washable paint you can wash it off and paint the same pumpkin again and again!
Fall scavenger hunt: Exploring the nature around you is always a hit! We like to search for fall-specific items and check them off as we find them. You can find this hunt on my site.
Sorting leaves: Depending on your location, you might have really pretty foliage! Grab some baskets or empty bins and start a coloring sorting activity.
Leaf trees: Grab some leaves and sticks, some paper and glue and make your own tree! This is really fun and so pretty, too.
Leaf faces: Grab some leaves and paint animal faces on them! This takes major fine motor skills but no matter what it ends up looking like… it’s fun!
Baking soda and vinegar pumpkins: Grab a silicone baking mold (a pumpkin one for October!) and fill each section with a layer of baking soda and then water… then freeze it. Fill a tub with 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water and let the kids put the frozen baking soda pumpkins into the vinegar mixture. See what happens!
Haunted houses: Any large boxes laying around? Position them into haunted houses and let the kids paint them!
