Playroom at age 2.

We converted our former living room into a playroom. Then combined our living room with our dining room. Though, we still had two oversized couches in the playroom until about 2 weeks ago when we finally moved them outside — one post on a local yard sale site and they were picked up in no time! Now, without the couches, Javi has so much space in his playroom and I thought it was a good time to post about what he loves at age 2! Lots of these toys were recent gifts for his birthday but some are things he’s loved for quite some time.

We’re fortunate to have an entire room to dedicate to toys. It’s really nice because toys aren’t all over the entire house — just in this space. I try really hard to rotate out toys and not have too much out at one time. This way, at the end of every day when we clean up, it takes no more than 10 minutes. Then I can get to the important stuff of the evening — like watching T.V. 🙂

Right now, Javi loves to color. So I have out paper and crayons. He also loves play-doh and he’s really into this new factory set. I change out his books every so often but right now they’re mostly all about Halloween! Ones like Llama, Llama Trick or Treat, Spookie Pookie and Eek! Halloween are some favorites. The white bin on the left is filled with Mega Blocks and the bin on the right are train tracks. Those toys are the worst because there are so many pieces — but he loves them, so they stay. Javi loves this car ramp and he’s been playing with it for a while now.

We felt it was important to have one chair for us to sit in while we watch Javi play — so that’s the chair in the corner of the room. It also works well for book reading and just snuggling. 🙂 The child-sized table and chairs are from Ikea and we keep some outdoor toys inside because it’s getting cold (mostly just wet) but he loves his scooter (and helmet!) and the slide and they are used daily. When it’s nice outside, like in the summer time, we move the slide outside.

A few months ago, Javi got really into piggy banks. Mostly just dropping change in them (and stealing all our money to do so!) so he has one now. I like this one because it has different compartments for money you wish to save, or spend, or donate or invest. He, of course, doesn’t understand these concepts quite yet — but one day.

On these shelves he has this Melissa and Doug Pounding Bench, a Star Wars Mister Potato Head (not my influence!), a small shape sorter (part of this set), this Melissa and Doug magnetic fishing puzzle, Tegu magnetic blocks, a basket of puppets, a Curious George tin filled with Toob animals, and a Star Wars R2D2 model and stuffed toy (again, not my influence).

Much to my dismay — he seems to love stuffed animals! For the first year of his life, I made a conscience effort to refrain from buying stuffed animals (this probably stems from my 3 full bins of stuffed animals in the basement — from my own childhood). But suddenly, we are over run with stuffed toys and he loves them. His favorite ones seem to be Mickey related but he also loves all animals. Because there are so many, I do rotate them out and he keeps a few in his room.

He also loves his sit n spin (though now he uses it as more of a “stand n spin”) and his new lawnmower (which eventually will also become an outdoor toy). The laundry basket is filled with various balls, from basketballs to baseballs to bouncy balls to bowling balls.

The large hutch locks and is filled with extra kitchen things so it’s the only thing in the room not for him. But he loves the basketball hoop (which eventually should probably become an outdoor toy) and his new horse bouncer which he brings all over the house.

So there you have it! Our playroom for a 2-year old. 🙂 Other than stuffed animals, he doesn’t have any toys in his bedroom as I’d prefer that space to be just for sleeping. We have another room in our house that has all his other books and all his musical instruments (which he has a lot of), but I’ll show those areas in another post.

Hope you enjoyed this small room tour!
