Summer on the Cape, part 1.

We spent the last week in the Cape at the beach with family. We rented a small house on a lake that was very close to the beach and ocean. It was a perfect little spot for us and Javi LOVED everything about his “bacation” house — he doesn’t quite pronounce /v/ properly. He doesn’t realize that “his” beach vacation house isn’t actually HIS and our returning there isn’t guaranteed. It’s an amazing thing — having kids. They make you want to do things you never really wanted to do before — I went kayaking! They urge you to try, to be unafraid (or at least hold back the look of fear) and they both exhaust you and invigorate you at the same time. Lola had sleepless nights (teething) but we powered through and kept busy all day, every day. We did a lot and took way too many pictures so I’ll be sharing about our trip in two different posts.

We tried to get to the lake every day and even the beach too ON THE SAME DAY. Javi was such a fan of the kayaks that we had to go out to buy him his own life jacket. It took him a few times in the water to gain balance and understand how the life jacket works! Lola DID NOT like the beach, the lake, the kayaks, the sand, the sun, the heat. Or she was just suffering from teething! But either way she wasn’t as happy as Javi was on vacation!

Javi insisted on taking a photo in EVERY SINGLE ONE of these things. Anyone know what they’re called?! Anything he could stick his head into for a picture — he was all about it. “mama, take my picture”. 🙂 “mama! there’s another one on this side!”

The house we rented had a beach pass so we could get into all the beaches. They were crowded! It was so hot we had to sit right at the water and then it was so loud we couldn’t have a conversation. We went at night a few times and it was more enjoyable for everyone. Even Lola cracked a few smiles!

Sean joined us for most of the trip. He came back home a few nights for job interviews (AND GOT A JOB!) but when he was with us we went out a lot and did so much. More on that in the next post!
