The other night we had to make an emergency trip to the ER. I was trying to eat dinner as quickly as possible. Lola was a bit fussy, Javi had already finished his food and Sean was trying to clean up the kitchen. I was looking away. I heard Javi jumping around on the furniture and I looked back as he jumped into the recliner. It moved a bit and I told him to stop and that he needed to be careful. I turned back around for another bite of food, heard a bump and then an immediate cry.
I’m still not totally sure what happened. But I scooped him up and hugged him tight. I thought he hit his head so I focused on kissing his blonde hair. I asked him what he hit… he said “the floor”… 🙂 I asked, “no, on your body” and he said “my chin! my chin!” Surprised, I looked and sure enough, blood.
Sean had just left the room to get ice and I called him back saying “ya, I can’t”.
It was pretty clear, pretty quickly, that he had to be seen by a doctor so I called my dad to come sit with Lola while we took him to the ER. In Javi’s very upset and distraught state, he insisted that “buhpa” take him to the ER. I’m pretty sure he thought that if he could get my dad alone, he could convince him to take him for ice cream and not the doctor. 🙂
But we went, and he was brave. No tears, incredibly patient, and let the nurses and doctor do whatever it was they needed to do (as long as he could watch the iPhone). I chose to have them “glue” the skin back together, opposed to stitches. It’s been a few weeks now, but it’s looking ALMOST as did before the fall, or the stumble, or the trip…. whatever it was that happened! I’m really hoping he doesn’t have a scar and Sean’s mostly concerned that this is going to affect Javi’s beard growth when he gets older. 🙂
