Cape Cod.

We weren’t able to go on our annual Cape trip this summer because of Covid. Instead of our one to two week vacation in August, we opted for a long weekend in September. We hoped the weather would still allow us to visit the beach AND that the beach wouldn’t be as crowded. The wait was worth it and we had a great time– though it was a too cold to me!

We live pretty close to the Cape and can get to the bridge in about 45 minutes. Once we got to the house, we unpacked and then went straight to the beach. It was too chilly for me (!) but we had a great time walking and finding a lot of different creatures. There were SO many jellyfish (and yes, I just had to google how do you refer to multiple jellyfish? Jellyfishes seems to be incorrect.)

After our walk, we went back to the house to regroup and then went for a walk on the beach after dinner (and of course, stopped for ice cream on the way home.)

The kids didn’t go straight to bed! But they were asleep by 8 or so and then we got to relax a bit — before falling asleep at like 9. Vacationing with children is so exhausting! The next day we woke up and visited a Audubon beach. It was so peaceful and a great space for the kids to walk and run and explore.

In the afternoon, we went for a woodsy hike. It was a bit too woodsy for me but everyone enjoyed it! Lola fell asleep in the car on the way there so was a bit groggy until about the halfway point. Then she took off running — literally, there were a lot of falls! She also is quite the collector — we brought home way too many pinecones and small sticks that were her “favorite”.

That night we had a fun Zoom call for Sean’s brother’s birthday! It was Great Gatsby themed and we went sent props and cupcakes to enjoy on the call together. It was so cute!

The next day we drove a bit to a beach where it’s known to be able to see seals! We did in fact see them but I didn’t factor in that if you can see seals, that means sharks are close and you aren’t allowed to swim. So! Javi was a bit disappointed. After a little bit he recovered from “the beach is so boring!” and played in the sand.

In the afternoon, we went to a beach near the house we were staying at and the kids COULD go in the water so they were thrilled. They also built quite the sand castle.

It was such a nice weekend away and I’m so glad we were able to go. I’m already planning our next weekend getaway because quarantine is no joke! 🙂
