Color Mixing.

Color mixing with red, blue and yellow!

We had such a fun morning playing around with colors! I set up our Ikea flisat table and trofast bins with an activity on color mixing! (I’m linking to Amazon because I can’t link to Ikea but I highly suggest purchasing the table and bins straight from Ikea because they are SO much cheaper!)

I offered primary colors only (water with drops of food coloring) and easy droppers. Then set up multiple empty kitchen bowls to do the mixing. The girls learned if they mixed a few drops of red and blue they could make purple. If they mixed red and yellow they could make orange. If they mixed yellow and blue they could make green. Different variations and amounts of one color vs. another makes a totally different shade!

Eva’s face every time a new color was made was… amazing! It was so fun to watch her. I was glad we did this activity in the kitchen near the sink because it was easy to rinse out their dishes so they could repeat the activity many times.

I wasn’t so concerned with the mess but I have to say this Ikea table (and their aprons) really kept everything contained! I was impressed.

The last time we did this activity was TWO YEARS AGO! Lola was about Eva’s current age. I wanted to share that set up as well, because at the time we didn’t have this table — just a few plastic bins, beer tasting glasses (ha!) and ice cube trays! We all start somewhere!

Enjoy!
