I wanted to share some shelf work ideas and activities for a 12 month old. This will give you an idea of the things Eva has been interested in around this age.
She still has her main shelf space in our living room to keep her away from the bigger kids and so that I can watch her more closely as she’s becoming more mobile. She doesn’t walk yet but she’s quick.
I have some books for her, some puzzles, some object permanence boxes and her new Thinker Play Kit (affiliate link.) Since it’s Christmas time, she also has a felt tree!
As she’s growing, it’s clear she wants to be with Javi and Lola so I have added a shelf for her in the playroom. My hope was that she would gravitate toward it rather than their work… it hasn’t been successful if I’m being honest!
Some other activities she’s been interested in this month are:
Playdough: She LOVES playdough. She’s been good about not putting it in her mouth but obviously you’d have to use your judgement on that one. Sometimes she just plays with it on her own (under supervision) or I’ll make small playdough balls and she likes to squish them.
Painting: She loves painting in general but a fun-no-mess project we did this month was to add some paint to paper and seal it in a ziploc bag. She loved squeezing and pressing and watching all the paint move around.
Decorating the tree: I wasn’t sure how she’d be near the Christmas tree so I got her a smaller tree just for her to decorate with soft ornaments.
Pouring: I introduced pouring to her this month! She loved it!
