Montessori Gift Guides.

A gift guide for children under 6.

A lot of people ask for recommendations for Montessori toys and while there is no such thing as an authentic Montessori toy (Maria Montessori made scientific materials for classrooms and nothing for children under three), I can tell you which activities have been successful in supporting my children’s play and work habits — and what I’ve chosen to gift my own kids.

The age groups are pretty fluid in the guide below. Some young toddlers may be ready for something listed on the older toddler list and some five year olds might not be ready for something that a three year old has, uses and loves. Though I’ve broken down these categories by age, don’t be too tied to the numbers. My kids play with toys they’ve had for years and there’s a benefit to that. My suggestions are based entirely on the ages my kids were first introduced to the items.
