Mother’s Day weekend, 2018

Every once in a while our days are so full. I’m not sure how it happens but I just keep piling on the events and plans until I realized I’ve overbooked us (mostly the toddler that hangs out with us). This past weekend was a little like that:

Javi’s Fun Run!

First up, on Saturday morning, Javi participated in his very first running race! He definitely didn’t know what was going on 🙂 but it was fun. Once we checked in, got his number and pinned on his bib, he lined up with his age group and we lined the crowd to cheer him on! He didn’t run on “on your mark, get set… go!”. He just stood there — a bit confused, while all the other kids passed him. But once I started telling him to “go!” he ran, and ran and ran. In fact, he reached the finish line… and kept on running! There were so many people around that I couldn’t get to him to tell him to stop. He ran the loop half way around a second time before I was able to catch up with him. Of course, he got a medal and was pumped about it.

Sports Class:

From his successful Fun Run, we drove to his Saturday morning Sports class. It was baseball day!

Javi’s energy level continues to be strong during sports class. He runs and often tells Sean to “run, daddy!” as he’s 10 steps ahead. 🙂 He also loved showing off his medal from that morning.

Boston Pops!

From Sports class, we dropped off Lola with my parents and we took Javi for a special afternoon to the Boston Pops. They were doing a family show and playing only music from Disney. It was adorable to watch Javi sit in the big chairs and clap after each song. It was the cutest thing when I noticed he KNEW what to do (clap once the singer was finished). This cuteness lasted about 17 minutes — that was when the calm was over. Then he started to move around, get up and down, look all around and was really distracted. Oh, and then his light-up shoe got stuck under the seat in front of us and when he pulled his foot up — his shoe didn’t come with it. (It was nearly impossible getting that back). After about 45 minutes we called it a day.

Mother’s Day:

The next day was Mother’s Day! It was a relaxing day and I did a few things around the house, got showered with love (and pancakes for breakfast), and even took a nap. (pretty perfect). At dinner time, we went to my parent’s house and spent time with family.

Overall, Javi did so well over the weekend especially for being out and about and without taking naps. But it made me realize that he does better when we aren’t so scheduled. I’m looking forward to a few low-key weekends with him. 🙂
