Two Months with Walker Phoenix.

I don’t want to start every month’s recap with oh my god, time is flying by — but really, it is. I feel really lucky that I now know how to enjoy this time unlike at the beginning of my parenting journey. That’s not to say the sleepless nights aren’t hard because they are! But I also hold onto the truth that they aren’t forever.

So with that said, Walker is two months old and a total mama’s boy. His eyes follow me around the room, my voice soothes him almost immediately and when I hold him, his whole body relaxes. This is both my favorite thing in the world and really hard! I end up wearing him in the ergo most of they day out of necessity.

He’s sleeping… okay! I can’t complain about the stretches he gives us because it is really unexpected. It’s also not consistent. There are nights he’ll sleep from 11-5/6am and other nights he’s up at 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 — or a medley of those times. He’s typically not super fussy in the middle of the night. He just wants to eat and be cozy! We are co-sleeping and that’s working for us for now. We have a bedside sleeper and a dock-a-tot and most nights he ends up in our arms. Let’s just say I’ve finished 7 seasons of House, I’ve made it to season 5 of One Tree Hill, season 2 of The Resident, and watched countless movies.

He’s eating like a full grown man! He made the switch to all formula recently since I made the (very tearful) decision to stop pumping. He has between 7-8 bottles a day, each 4 ounces. Typically, it’s around 4-5am, 7-8am, 11-12pm, 2-3pm, 5-6pm, 7-8pm, 10-11pm — and occasionally he wakes between 1-2am but I’m really trying to avoid that one! 🙂 I’m not sure about his weight/height growth yet, but we’ll find out at his appointment on May 6th! All I know is he is solid and I’m already having trouble lifting his carseat into my car.

Another reason I know he’s much bigger is because he’s wearing 3-6 and 6-9 month clothes depending on the brand! It makes me SO sad. He was always bigger than my other babies but I didn’t know that meant he would grow faster, too! I do squeeze him into 0-3 clothes sometimes!

The kids are loving him and he’s still the first thing they pay attention to when they get home. They didn’t get to hold him much this month because our home has been a ground zero for illness. Luckily he and I did our best to steer clear of most germs and we’ve been okay! But I know our time will come.

This was also the month he discovered his hands, went to his first marathon start line (he slept through it!), went inside his first bounce house (he was safe!), saw his first solar eclipse (with glasses!), had lots of driveway hangouts, spent hours at baseball games and soccer games, had his newborn photos taken, went on lots of walks, and started to laugh and giggle and make those perfect little newborn sounds. And yes, he’s a newborn for a few more weeks!
