Nova Scotia.

In August, we spent a week in Nova Scotia with Sean’s family! We had never been there — I actually hadn’t been to Canada before except for a two night stay in Niagara Falls. But does that count?! I’m not sure. The kids were SO excited to visit another country. ha!

We drove up to his parent’s house, spent the night and the next day drove up to Bar Harbor to get on the ferry. The ferry ride was fancy though a bit stressful (for us); the kids had a blast. Javi watched a movie in the kids area, Lola ate snacks and Eva fell asleep. Just being in the water made me nervous, plus it was foggy so I was a little high strung and Sean spent the hours being very seasick. We were so relieved to see land. ha!

Once we crossed the border, we were off on another few hour drive to the house they rented. It was really late when we arrived and the roads were through the backwoods — like deep woods. I was scared, but if Sean was, he didn’t act like it. 🙂 When we arrived, the kids went through every room in the house (there were like 8 bedrooms!) to try to decide where they wanted to sleep. Then they woke up in totally different beds so I think they did a little shuffling throughout the night. I was fast asleep. 🙂 The house was beautiful and had a literal tree in the center of the house.

Our days at the house were filled with fishing, boating, and camp fires. The kids were so happy when Sean’s brother and his wife arrived! Something about more people to pay even more attention to them is so appealing!

There were board games and card games and lots of relaxing! They crafted and built and planned and created and just were the best to the kids.

Each day, we tried to take a little outing. The kids become a little stir crazy if we don’t get out of the house and there’s always, always the hope that if we time it just right, a few car naps might take place! We visited a few lighthouses!

One day, we visited a beach known for (and I think called…) Sand Dollar Beach. We found a lot of sand dollars and the kids thought that was so neat. Please notice how I am dressed for a monsoon and Sean is ready for a beautiful summer day. 🙂

On Sean’s mom’s birthday we visited Halifax! We went to dinner, walked around the city, found a playground (of course) and took lots of photos. Then came home for cake! There has to be cake!

One my favorite places we visited was called Peggy’s Cove. The kids liked to pretend they were falling off the rocks. I wasn’t a fan of that. 🙂

We also went out to dinner a bunch and the kids had their first Shirley Temples — only Eva was impressed!

At the end of the week, we decided to forego the ferry ride and we drove the whole way home. It actually took less time. These are a few more of my favorite pictures. 🙂

We had a great time with family in Nova Scotia! We’d like to go back and it would be great if we could arrange for the sun to shine brightly and warmly. 🙂
