The Start Of School.

This August was the start of all three kids entering school! I went back and forth on sending Eva to preschool. Ultimately, I decided not to send her but then the school called and told me they had a spot for her if I wanted it, and I felt like it was a sign! So they are all there! We officially have a preschooler, a kindergartner, and a second grader!

Javi started school first! He is loving his teacher and his classroom. She sent a letter home over summer break and he was thrilled to learn that she really enjoys science. Apparently second grade is when science and social studies begin and he has been liking those subjects. Of course, math and reading remain his favorite — unless recess and specials are included in the options. 🙂 He doesn’t share too much about his day, but when he brings home work he can explain it all and so far anything that has come home with a grade is 100%. So, I guess he’s doing well?!

His teacher welcomes parent volunteers which I also love so I signed up to be a room parent and a class volunteer. I help with small group lesson work once a week — usually math, sometimes reading, and he seems to enjoy when I come in!

Lola, our new kindergartner (!), had a busy start to school. Kindergartners get invited to a play date which she enjoyed, plus an orientation that includes a ride on a school bus! She was a little nervous “to stay all day” and while she comes home pretty tired, she seems to have fun and enjoys herself! Her biggest complaint is that her teacher works her “to the bone”. 🙂

We were happy when she was placed in the same kindergarten classroom where Javi was! Lola was happy, too! And she’s been excited to come home and tell us all about the letters, sounds and numbers she’s learning every day. She’s also very into inviting people over for play dates! I’m her classroom room mom too, so I’m thankful for that!

And then there’s Eva! Eva is in a half-day morning class and has the same teacher that Lola had last year! She had a short visiting day, too, where we got to see the room and meet the teachers but she didn’t even need it. From day one, she’s been so happy to go to school (she’s happy to come home too, but very happy to go!) She tells me all about her friends, and gives a play by play of her entire morning. “First I sat at circle, then I sat in a chair…” — it’s a very, very detailed recap!

As we enter month 3 of school, I’m relieved to say — it’s been a great school year!
