One week with Lola Rey.

We’ve had our little Lola in our arms for a week now and she’s making an impact on everyone (including the cats) in our house. We’re figuring out our new normal, a new routine and her rhythm, her cries and her happy times. We’re doing well as a family of four. I wanted to share some moments from our first week together.

Big brother, Javi, is in love with Lola. He wakes up every morning and requests to see “Lala”. Before he leaves for school, he stops by her swing to give her a kiss, always is vigilant in replacing her pacifier (sometimes a bit too rough for mama’s liking…), and he LOVES holding and feeding her. When he no longer wants to hold her, he tells us “I done”.

Lola’s been good to us in terms of sleep – she sleeps most of the day and is only awake for 20 minute spurts here and there. She wakes up once in the night, usually sometime between 2-4AM (not bad), eats and then tries her best to go to bed. She has some reflux issues and she grunts and moans after she eats. So… we don’t always get peaceful sleep during the second half of the night. But we’re trying.

Lola joins us for family dinner each night. This whole period of not yet rolling over on her own is pretty convenient for getting things done! Javi never wanted to be put down so dinner time was always a shuffle between us to eat while holding him. Lola is pretty flexible with this and doesn’t mind just laying there — sleeping or watching us.

Our little Lola has a birth mark called an “angel’s kiss” on her forehead. Apparently it’s one that will probably disappear as she grows BUT it will reappear when she gets really mad. (ha!)

She loves to be bundled and swaddled and I’ve tried my best to keep mittens on her hands because she’s such a scratcher! The second her hands are free — she scratches her face. 🙁

Atlas has been the only cat interested enough in her to get close. He sniffs her, sleeps on her clothes and cuddles us while we’re snuggling her. I think he’s bit jealous because he’s been a bit high maintenance during this transition time.

We took her to her first doctors appointment for a weight check and she is down a bit (7 pounds 10 ounces) from her birth weight (8 pounds 2 ounces). But we go again tomorrow and hopefully she hasn’t lost more weight! She does spit up a ton, but we’re doing our best!

In Lola’s first week of life she got to celebrate a holiday! You can read about our NYE here.

We’re doing our best to balance Javi’s day between time with Lola, time with each of us and time to himself. It’s hard but we’ll get it!

We’re loving having Lola in our lives and will be sure to share more in the days to come!
