The start of summer.

Summer, summer, here you are! Summer is great for so many reasons. The main one is that as a teacher I get to stay home with my babies and do all sorts of things that I feel like I missed out on during the school year!

Summer, summer, here you are! Summer is great for so many reasons. The main one is that as a teacher I get to stay home with my babies and do all sorts of things that I feel like I missed out on during the school year!

It’s been an eventful first week of summer vacation. We’ve been packing it full of positive outings and lots of (unexpected) family time. Unfortunately, Sean was laid off last week so while we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time together; things are a bit up in the air and stressful. So, we’ve been making sure that our time together when the kids are awake 7-7 is fun, happy and carefree. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

Javi’s last day of school was on Friday, the 8th. He had a Moving-Up Ceremony and he’s now officially in pre-school! I can’t believe it, but I’m so excited. I’ve said since I was pregnant that I can’t wait for him to turn 3. You know, that’s when “I’ll know what I’m doing” since that’s the age I teach. Well, I’m fully ready to withdraw that statement and just admit that I have no idea what to do 100% of the time when it comes to parenting. But, I’m still excited for age 3, because I love age 3. We’ll see…

Back in May, I had big plans that involved regimented schedules for each day including no TV time until 5PM. We’re two weeks in and I think Javi’s watched every disney movie from Cinderella to 101 Dalmations to Finding Nemo and has watched Coco 15 times. You win some, you lose some.

I’m trying to make a conscious effort to be in more pictures, especially on my instagram and facebook page. So far so good!

One thing I’m being very intentional about this summer is getting Javi outside. When he’s in school, he spends a few hours outside every day. I think that’s important. I definitely notice his energy level being much higher when he spends the day inside (or in front of the TV). We bought a pool and have some of his favorite outside toys for the yard and that helps to keep him occupied.

Over the weekend we took him to a farm to see cows. When he wakes up in the morning, I always ask him what he wants to do that day. Sometimes it’s achievable, other times it’s not. But this day, in particular, he asked to see cows. So we delivered. Pretty easy when you live near so many farms.

We’ve also been busy planting. When I say “we”, I, of course, mean Sean. But I think it looks so great and I’m so happy with how it’s turning out. He does great landscaping work. 🙂

One day we went over to Davis Farmland which was amazing. I have so many pictures from this day that I hope to do an entire blog post about it. Let’s just say that it’s the PERFECT place for a 2-year-old.

Other things I’d like to write about from this week are Father’s Day, how Javi and Lola are doing as siblings, Lola’s last day of school (!), and other firsts of these weeks — Javi visited the library for the first time, I’m getting pretty good at selling things online, and my hair business (it’s so much fun and taking off!).

But now, I have to go to bed. Javi has this thing about waking up at 5AM. It’s not typical and I’m hoping it’s a short phase. But now, I’m exhausted.
