Easter Weekend.

Happy Easter! We had a wonderful Easter season — everything these days seems like a season — and I thought I’d recap a little bit about it!

How cute is his little personalized basket!? I got each of the kids their own this year and I’m now committed to them. I hope to use these until they fall apart!

We started the weekend with egg dyeing! Each kid got six eggs to dye. I gave the option of using the kit or using shaving cream and food coloring — but no one was convinced about the shaving cream method. I don’t know why!

Everyone had their own unique style to egg dyeing. Lola wanted everything to be bright and the more pink, the better. We nicknamed her eggs the “barbie eggs”. I wasn’t sure Javi was very interested in dyeing eggs — he’s hard to read these days. But it turns out he was very particular with his color choices and he was really just doing color mixing experiments. And then there’s Eva. 🙂 She didn’t quite grasp “eggs are fragile” and “don’t drop them into the bowls” because her eggs had cracks all over them. She just kept saying “that’s okay!”. We nicknamed her eggs the “dinosaur eggs” because that’s what they looked like by the time she was done with them!

In the early afternoon on Saturday we tried to visit the Easter Bunny at a nearby candy store. But we missed him. This wasn’t exactly a disappointment to anyone (other than me) and they were all thrilled they left the store with some chocolate — and no photos.

Once home, Sean helped them all prep our Easter dinner meal. A few weeks ago we decided we don’t really like ham, or roasts or anything that is a standard “Easter meal”. So when we talked about what we wanted and what we liked… we went with pasta. So Sean and the kids made linguine and ravioli from scratch and we ended up having different pastas, caprese salad, and garlic bread for Easter dinner. It was great!

Once Easter morning came around, the kids were so happy with their baskets. We have a 6AM rule, and they were definitely creeping around the house searching for eggs long before that. With a newborn in the house, I almost didn’t mind. I had been up since 4AM anyway.

I shared these inspiration boards on my instagram when I was putting together their baskets. I just love shopping for the kids and buying them holiday treats. (And then I’m mad when our house is cluttered and simultaneously wonder… where does all our money go?! — it’s a cycle)

They opened their baskets right away and then did an indoor hunt. Our indoor eggs have candy! I say it every year, but I should really put some type of method into place with the hunts. Either number of eggs or everyone gets a color because, boy, did we have tears. Eva’s really good at spotting the eggs, but can’t always reach them and when she asked for help, Lola and Javi would just take the eggs as their own. Then there was competition between Javi and Lola of who got more eggs. I may or may not have shed just as many tears out of frustration. After breakfast, we did our outdoor backyard hunt. The outdoor hunt has money. The same was true for outside. You’ll notice… we don’t have any photos of the egg hunt. 🙂

In the late morning we went to my parent’s house for brunch and to spend time with family. Most family members met Walker for the first time! He spent most of the holiday… asleep. But he did “dress up” for the occasion — out of a sleeper and into pants and shirt.

It wasn’t really a nice day outside but outdoor photos are so much better than indoor ones! So I made us all freeze for a few minutes and we pretended we were warm (and happy!) to take some pictures.
