We’ve gone back and forth about how many children we wanted to have multiple times. After Javi — I said no more. 🙂 But once the trauma of childbirth wasn’t as vivid and we got ourselves into a family routine and my own emotions allowed me to give myself some patience and confidence, we decided we wanted a second baby. Lola’s birth was not nearly as traumatic for me and the transition from one child to two children was MUCH easier for us than the transition from zero children to having one child in the house. So pretty soon after Lola, we started talking about what one more baby would do for our little family.

I took a test on April 6th and it was positive. I didn’t have my first appointment until the end of May but the doctors told me my due date is December 18th although I’ll be induced on December 11th. I don’t see any reason that I would go into labor early since both Javi and Lola stayed put until the doctor forced them out. 🙂

We started sharing our pregnancy with some family and friends early on if we saw them in person. We wanted to wait to tell “the world” until after 12 weeks. Then the 12 weeks became longer, for no real reason, — and here I am — 19 weeks, basically just announcing it! Whoops!

Because of their current ages (Javi = 3 years 10 months and Lola = 1 year 7 months) I don’t know how much they really “get” about a new baby. Javi has been enjoying kissing my stomach and telling me how much he loves the baby. But last week when we found out it was a girl (!) he was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t a boy! Lola has no idea but does look at my growing stomach with a bit of an annoyed look on her face as she’s trying to curl up with me on the couch. She’s also started lifting up my shirt; almost as if to say “what is that in my way?!”.

In the beginning, the pregnancy was killing me. All I could do was sleep. I’d get home from work and sleep. Since being home for the summer, I do have more energy and don’t feel the need to sleep 24/7 but I’m also not my total self. As I’m nearing the mid-way point, some things have come up through ultrasound which are sucking up a lot of my excitement. (a post for another time).

But overall, we are so happy. We can’t wait to see how this baby changes our family dynamic and we’re so looking forward to welcoming HER during the Christmas season.
